Parking, Braking
By Nuno Cristovao

By Emergency Braking, I’m not talking about Tesla’s built in Collision Avoidance. This Emergency Brake can be used when parking on a hill or other steep incline - OR - if you are driving and your brake pedal is failing.

Parking on a Hill

Like all cars, when parking on a hill it is advised to turn your steering wheel so if your car was to accidentally roll, it would roll away from traffic and not into traffic. It is also advised to enable your Emergency Brake. When you put your car in Park, it stops the rear wheels from turning. That may not be good enough on snow and ice or an incline. When you push on the end of the PRND stock, you put your car in Park. If you push and hold, it will also engage the Emergency Brakes making it even harder for your car to roll. When the Emergency Brakes are applied the ((P)) icon will be displayed. When ready to drive, just do as normal and put car in “R” or “D”.

Driving and car not slowing or stopping

Push on the Park button while car is moving, and brakes will be applied. Like going down a hill too fast. An Emergency.

Hear are two YouTube videos that will help explain.

Tesla to Build Water-cooled Supercomputer Cluster at Giga Texas

By Karan Singh

Elon Musk, in a recent post on X, confirmed that the upcoming expansion of Tesla’s supercomputers would be at Giga Texas, as part of a “super-dense, water-cooled” cluster. Elon previously mentioned that just this year, Tesla would be spending $10 billion in just AI and compute capabilities alone.

Much of the equipment for the cooling system has already arrived on site and is being placed on the end further away from the new glass front in the northern section, according to long-time Giga Texas drone flier Joe Tegtmeyer. The southern end of the new expansion has been confirmed to be the site of the supercomputer cluster expansion, as part of Tesla’s recent push towards autonomy and the reveal of Robotaxi, which is expected on August 8.

Compute Expansion

The continued expansion of compute has been a critical part of Tesla’s research and development funding this year, as per the 2024 Earnings Call. The in-house computing facilities support not just FSD development, but also the development of Optimus, Tesla’s humanoid robot. With recent moves towards bringing no-nag FSD, as well as the possible unveiling of FSD in China, these compute expansions will be necessary to support further improvements to Tesla’s AI models.

Tesla Model 3 Performance Range Increases With Official EPA Rating, Tesla Adds New Wheel Option

By Karan Singh

Last night Tesla unveiled the official EPA rating for the Model 3 Performance, along with price changes to wheels, and new Gemini wheel covers for the Model Y on the same day.

Model 3 Performance Range

The official EPA rating for the Model 3 Performance is 303 miles (approx. 487km), which is six miles higher than Tesla’s estimate. Originally, the range was estimated by Tesla to be 297 miles (approx. 478km). This update, with a slight range increase, marks the first time that Tesla has had a performance variant of the Model 3 or Model Y at over 300 miles of EPA-rated range.

Canadian Differences

The Canadian Model 3 Performance will be shipping from China, and as such has received a different range – 476km (approx. 295 mi). This small difference is also present in the slightly different acceleration – the US variant has a 0-60 mph at 2.9 seconds, while the Canadian one has a 0-60 (or 0-100km/h) of 3.1 seconds.

Canada has also recently announced that they are looking into Chinese imported EV tariffs following a recent US announcement that they would be increasing tariff rates on Chinese-imported EVs and batteries – which means we could possibly see the same variant in Canada.

Black Gemini Wheel Covers & Nova Wheels

The Model 3 19” Nova wheels, which are available on the Long Range and Standard Range variants, are now available at a lower price – reduced to $1,000 from $1,500.

Alongside this change, Tesla has also introduced new black 19” Gemini wheel covers for the Model Y in the United States, available at a $500 additional charge. The original silver wheel covers are standard.

This wheel cover change is currently not available in Canada, most likely due to the import of Model Y vehicles from China.
